Rajasthan Royals has announced that Riyan Parag will lead the team in the first three games of IPL 2025.

Young All-Rounder Parag will be responsible for the opening game against Sunrise Hyderabad on March 23, followed by a meeting between defending champion Kolkata Knight Rider and five-time champion Chennai Super Kings on March 30.

The franchise said Samson doesn’t need to receive wicket keeping and field task releases yet. However, Samson misses all the games as he says the franchise will play as an expert.

An integral part of the Royals’ setup, Sanju Samson remains an important contribution to the bat with the bat until it becomes clear due to the wickets and fielding. He will return as captain as soon as the fit fits,” the franchise said in the description.

A few days ago, Samson joined the team after recovering from finger surgery. He suffered an injury in the Indian T20I series in February, excluded him from the rest of the series and required surgical intervention.

The decision to hand over Captain Riyan of the Rajasthan Royals highlights the franchise’s confidence in his leadership, and the abilities he demonstrated by his term as the interior captain of Assam. After he became a decisive member of the Royals setup over the years, he is well equipped with the team dynamics to win this role early in the tournament. The first two home games of the Royals season in Rajasthan will take place on March 26th and 30th at ACA Stadium in Guwahat against the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings. Sawamansu Singh Stadium in Jaipur will serve as the Rajasthan Royals fortress for other home games.

The Royals, who won their first IPL title in 2008, reached the playoffs last year after finishing third in the points table, but did not advance to the finals after losing the Eliminator to Hyderabad in Sunriser.
